Photo Friday 2012 ~ 30 ~

I have photo overload this week.  I took a bunch of photos of my daughter the other day in anticipation of being away from her.  That's right, my baby girl went to the Smokey Mountains with my mom and my grandpa for a little fun.  I used to go to there with my grandparents for a week or so every summer when I was little and I loved it.  I have tons of fond memories of my brother and I hiking around and playing in the creek and him burning things-he was a total pyromaniac when he was a kid.  He burned this bowl that was made of that super thick plastic stuff from the 70's (help me out here, I have no idea what it's called!) and he called it 'the eternal flame'.  Yes, people, feel sorry for me for having to grow up with him.  Anyway, I really do want my kids to have fun playing around the mountain house and making their own crazy memories so when my mom begged me to take her, I said yes.  She is having a blast and so far hasn't missed me one bit (she tells me every time I call her).  I'm pretty sure I could leave her all summer and she wouldn't care.  She has a cousin down there that is the same age as her and they love to play together.  I miss her like crazy though!  I can't wait to have her back home.  In the meantime, I just look at these photos and imagine getting a hug and kiss from my sweet girl.

I had tried a Pinterest hairdo that day and it looked really cute at first, but I really don't think it was made to withstand all the play that an 8 year old does, like climbing in and out of a fort all day and running around the neighborhood.  It would be cute for church or something though.

Looking at these makes me miss her so much!  I just wanna squish her sweet face!

You know how much I love profile shots...

Had to get a smiling one. :)

Since my girl is gone I've been enjoying some sweet one on one time with my boy.  I LOVE everything about this picture.

I'm borrowing a friend's camera for a couple days and having fun learning how to use it.  I had a surprisingly willing little boy who was having fun on his photo shoot this morning.  I love his freckles.

Silly boy.  I love all of his crazy faces.

This was from the other day and for some reason every time I look at it I think he looks like a superhero.

I'm trying to keep busy to keep my mind off missing my girl.  And to enjoy my time with my boy.  I hope you all have a great weekend and I'll try to post more next week!

Photo Friday 2012 ~ 29 ~

I am sick today.  It should be impossible to get sick in summer...I mean, it is just not right feeling like crap when it is hot and sunny outside.  I think I'm on the upswing though.  At least I hope so since my in-laws were supposed to come to town today and hang out with us all weekend.  Doesn't it figure that I would get sick?  My girl was sick the other day too, poor baby.  Other than that we've had a pretty fun week though.  I babysat a friend's little boy for a couple of days and that took me right back to when I used to babysit.  I miss it a little bit...just a tiny bit.  I would never do it full time again though.  But we had fun.  We got our school materials yesterday!  The kids were so excited.  I have never seen my son that excited about learning to read until he saw the giant phonics box that he got.  He said he wants to start school in 6 days.  I have no idea why 6, but we won't be starting until the end of August.  If I can hold them off.  They are pretty excited to get started opening everything and organizing it.  I still have a million things to do to get the school room ready though, so it will still be a couple weeks at least.  They haven't gotten their computers yet, so we can't officially start anyway.  I'm so impressed with the quality of everything that we have gotten so far.  It is amazing.  I've been trying to take pictures of everything and I'll share some when I get the room done.  In the meantime, here are this week's photos.

A new favorite of my girl.  I liked this in color, but the black and white just makes it perfect.  I love her.

That little boy I babysat was in love with the lego ninjas.  His favorite thing to do with them?  Dismember them and then put them back together.  Too cute.

My boy with a genuine smile.  Love it!

I forgot to mention it before, but we had a pet for a few hours this week.  Can you find him?

My girl did research on what they eat, where they live, etc. and wrote it all down.  She was fully prepared to keep him for real (she found out they live up to 3 years) until she decided he was kind of a boring pet and decided to let him free.  I didn't argue with that one. :)

Have a great weekend!

From the Archives

Four years ago today...

One of my favorite photos ever.  I love this kid's laugh.  I have this framed in our family room and I will never change it out.  He was about 22 months old here.

My girl with her short hair.  I love her little squishy face.  She was four.  Now I don't even have a kid that young.  Sigh...

I never thought I'd be one of those mom's being all wistful and saying how fast it goes...but I am.

Photo Friday 2012 ~ 28 ~

I finally got some stuff done this week and I feel much better.  Of course it took my mom coming over to boss me around (she refers to this as cheerleading me) and get me motivated.  I just get stuck sometimes feeling overwhelmed and not sure where to start.  So, the school room has been started...of course I keep changing my mind on how to organize the room.  I've been pinning on my pinterest board and it's given me too many ideas and now I don't know which one to go with.  And my budget is pretty limited so that makes it hard too.  I'll get it figured out eventually...hopefully in the next couple of weeks before our school supplies start arriving.  We had some fun this week too.  It's still hot here, but the major heat wave seems to have passed and we were able to enjoy the pool without it feeling like a hot tub and go to Kings Island with my sister without melting.  I am finally getting rid of this ridiculous poison ivy that has been plaguing me for a couple of weeks now.  I've been feeling like a leper the way people would back away when they found out what was on me.  And I wasn't even able to hug my family for about a week because for one it hurt really bad and also because I didn't want anyone to catch it.   Man, did I miss those hugs from my babies.  Okay, so on to this week's photos.  My girl was hanging outside most of the day one day just reading on a blanket and tinkering around in the yard and then asked me if she could make a mud pie.  I said sure, why not?  So she set out with a bucket of water and a shovel.  After she was done she wanted me to take a picture.

I love how she even embellishes her mud pies.  She's got berries and a little leaf garnish.  She's totally into the presentation.  Maybe she'll be a gourmet chef someday?  Or a florist?  Or an interior designer?  I love how fun it is to see what our kids are talented at and wonder how those talents will come into play as they grow up.

And of course she needed a pick of her being silly and acting like she's going to eat it. :)

Have a great weekend!  Hope you are enjoying the lazy days of summer as much as we are!

Photo Friday 2012 ~ 27 ~

Another week of summer has flown by.  Ahhh!!  It is going way too fast.  I wish things would slow down around here.  I like being busy, but I haven't gotten anything done that I have planned to do this summer yet and that scares me.  I need to get moving.  On the other hand, I still feel like we need a few lazy days to go to the park and play in our yard and just be spontaneous.  I'm hard to please like that. :)  I just hope this heat wave is over soon.  I have a few pictures from our 4th of July celebrations to share.  It was h.o.t.  Remind me again why we don't move to the beach?  Cause I'm pretty sure that 100 degrees feels a whole lot better with an ocean breeze and some palm trees swaying.  I'm just sayin'...

This is so typical of when we get together with friends.  It isn't a party til this guy has a few kids sitting on him. The kids love it!  There's his baby girl putting his hat back on him (something about the hat containing all his powers).  I love our friends. :)

His first experience with sparklers.  He was a big fan.

He was pretty intense.  Which is a good thing when you're holding fire in your hands, right?

I really wanted to get some photos of them after dark spelling out their names, but by the time we got home from fireworks we were too pooped.  And before we left it wasn't dark enough.  We have a few left, so maybe tonight!

I'm not doing my 4 People 12 Times project this year and I kinda miss it.  So I had a friend snap a picture of the four of us.  I think this is the second one all year.  Hopefully we'll get some more with some better faces...that boy...  Oh well, it's still us!

Have a great weekend and stay cool!

Photo Friday 2012 ~ 26 ~

Ugh...this post is totally late.  I hate that!  Our wireless router broke and we haven't replaced it yet, so I had to edit photos on one computer and then use our super old, slow laptop for internet access.  It's just been one of those weeks, you know?  We have had a lot of fun other than that though.  We went to the amusement park with an old friend of mine and her kids, then we went to the pool with our gross friends. :)  We also went to the awesome little amusement park that I blogged about last year.  I'm gonna blog those pictures separately from this though because I have too many that I love.  It was a full, fun week.  I need to get some more stuff done around the house though because I can't believe it is already July!  Yikes!  Summer is going waaaay too fast!  Here are my favorites from last week.

I love her.  She's so silly.  Riding the carousel is an adventure when you have an imagination as big as hers.

My cute boy. :)  Not quite as into it as his sister, but he still likes it.

Love the timeless look of this in black and white.

My girl is getting kind of big for this ride, but she is so sweet about still riding stuff with her brother, who obviously still loves it!  I knew I had a photo of them on this ride from a few years ago...so I had to dig through the archives to find it.

She was five (same age as my son is now) and he was two and a half.  They were so little and cute!  I can't believe how much they've grown.

The new favorite thing...building forts with towels at the pool.  And this boy is so obsessed with legos right now he even takes them to the pool.  Quiz question:  Do legos float or sink?

Our friend with the pool has neighbors with horses.  My girl is in heaven when we go there.

Have I mentioned lately how much I love summer?  Well, I do.
