Photo Friday 2012 ~ 25 ~

Summer isn't summer to me until we've been at the pool at least a few times.  I'm happy to say that we are finally getting our fill of pool days.  It's so nice to have friends and family who are generous with sharing their pools with us!  I actually took my own advice this week and took my camera to the pool and took some photos.  They aren't spectacular, and they aren't creative or styled or anything like that, but I still love them.  Photos like this of us just doing our everyday things are the ones I'm most likely to look back fondly on.  I actually spent a few minutes the other day going through some old photos of my daughter at the pool and I loved every single one of them and I wasn't even a 'professional' back then.  My niece was wearing my daughter's old swimsuit at the pool the other day and it brought back memories of my girl when she was just a squishy little 3 year old.  So I looked up photos from that summer and wow, I can't believe how long ago it seems on one hand and how it went by in blink on the other.  I'm sure I'll be saying that about these photos in a few short years!

I have a picture of us just like this from when she was four.

I remember when she was four and I used to think my days of getting kisses and hugs were numbered.  Glad  it's been four years since then and she's still as sweet and loving as ever.

I know, I chopped off his head...but I still love this shot of me getting a sweet kiss from my boy!

My little fish.  She loves the pool so much!

My other fish.  He has decided to start jumping and swimming this year with no float!  It just sort of happened the other day that he got up the nerve and got over getting splashed in the face.  I'm so proud of him!

Have a great weekend!!

An Epic Fight

The tension was high.  The two cousins and best friends turned worst enemies were about to fight it out.

The Intimidator ~ don't let his small size fool you...this one's mean.
VS. Crazy Face ~ he's crazy with fists of iron.

It started with a look.

The first punch is thrown.  It's a solid hit to the jaw!  Crazy face doesn't know what hit him!

He shakes it off and comes back with a solid punch of his own!  Wow, great hit!  The Intimidator is rocked by that one.

He staggered, but the Intimidator is still not down!  He has one last good punch left in him.  Will it be a TKO?

The fight had to be called due to the brutal nature of these punches!  The judges called a draw.  The cousins are outraged.  The next fight is not yet scheduled as this blog post goes to press.  I'll keep you updated and let you know as soon as these two bruts are up for another epic battle.  Hopefully we can contain their fury in the meantime!

Photo Friday 2012 ~ 24 ~

Once again I didn't get out my camera at all this week!  What is wrong with me?  I think I need to start re-embracing my love of photography a little more.  I really miss it when I don't take photos of my own family.  I have a few months here and there where I don't take many photos and then when I look back I wonder why I didn't and I miss them.  I organize all my photos by year and then by month, so I really do notice when there are months that only have like 15 photos in the entire folder (believe it or not, there are a couple).  I'm promising myself to do better next week.  I think my problem is that we aren't doing anything 'new' with the kids so I don't think of taking my camera with me when we go to the pool or to the park that we've been to a million times before.  I keep thinking that I already have photos like that.  But those photos are like a year old, so I need to remind myself that even though my kids aren't changing month by month anymore, they still change quite a bit in a year.  I took out my camera this morning knowing I hadn't taken a photo all week.  My kids were building with blocks and I am always amazed at what they come up with.  Click here and here  to see some of their previous towers I've blogged.  Here's the new ones...

This tower is quite the engineering feat if you ask me.  I had to explain to her what the difference between architecture and engineering were and how they work together.  I love the support system in place at the bottom.  Future engineer perhaps?

This kid loves building things.  If he doesn't grow up to be some sort of architect or engineer I will be surprised...unless he's playing professional golf (a mom can dream, right?).  Check out the bottom of his tower.

It rolls!  I don't know if we have rolling buildings in our futures, but at least he's an innovator!

Sorry for the not so fantastic quality of these photos.  I had the wrong lens on my camera for the lighting in that room and I was afraid to take the time to change it in case anyone knocked their tower over before I snapped a pic.  Embracing the imperfection...it is part of my blog title after all!  Have a great weekend!

I Miss the Beach

Ever since I changed my header to those beach photos I have been missing the beach.  Even though it is beautiful here now that it's summer, I still long for the smell of the ocean and the sound of the waves.  I don't know what it is, but I just feel so much more at peace when I am near a beach.  So, since I'm not going to be near one again for about 11 months, I'll just torture myself by posting photos of our trip.  I love these so much!  I hope you enjoy them!

I love her movie star shades.

One of my favorites of the two of them.

He had made up his own sign language for yes and no (three fingers means yes, two means no), but I taught him "I love you" and he does it at the most random times and it is the sweetest thing ever!

Like father, like son.  Love this.

Hanging out at sunset.  Tired boy watching the waves.

My supermodel.

I LOVE looking at these!  What a wonderful time we had.  I just wish we could go back sooner!

Photo Friday 2012 ~ 23 ~

Is the first week of summer really over?  We had fun, but it's already going too fast.  We spent the day at a friend's pool today and it finally felt like summer to me.  Relaxing in the hot sun with nothing else to do, nowhere to be later, no pressures, no worries, no stress...just for those few short hours.  That's summer.  My pictures this week are just a random hodgepodge of shots from last weekend at the park and stuff around the house.  You know, because it's summer and we've done a whole lot of nothing this week.  Just the way we like it.  : )

Do you see it?
That cloud that looks just like a heart?  It's so perfect!  I think it was put there just for me to take a picture of.  My husband was driving and I was admiring the blue sky and then there it was.  And I happened to have my camera with me for a photo shoot so I was able to snap this shot before it faded away into something else.  It makes me smile every time I look at it.

Speaking of smiles...how do you like this fake one I kept getting at the park?  Nice, huh.

I love this boy.

He totally needs a haircut, but I just love his hair so much it's like torture to cut it!

My son with my niece.  Silliness runs in the family.

Is there anything cuter than a shirtless boy with bedhead in a box?  I daresay there's not.

Have a great weekend!

Ready, Set, Go!

We spent some time with my nieces this past weekend and went to a playground where I was freezing...seriously what is up with this weather?!  The kids didn't seem to mind though.  There was a giant slide with three lanes that you could race on and I wanted a photo of the kids racing.  Sounds like an easy request, right?  Not so much.  They would not sit at the top and wait for me to say "go".  Apparently it's hilarious to frustrate me!  They finally did it after much pleading from me.

Ready!

Set!

Go!

There was some pretty blatant cheating going on!  But at least I caught it!  Look at my son's face...he looks like he's in pain or something...too funny.

Here's to many park dates in the future!  And I've got my eye on those cheaters...  : )

Photo Friday 2012 ~ 22 ~

I took 3 photos this week.  What the heck?!  I guess it's really true that the last week of school is busy.  But guess what...today is the first official day of summer break!!  I am so excited!  I admit though that my brain is not quite there yet.  I still have a million things to do and so I'm not quite in the relaxed mood that I'd like to be. On the one hand, I've got things to get done for my business and our home, but on the other hand I have absolutely nothing planned for the kids and that scares me.  I mean, I like my calendar to be free for spur of the moment get togethers and days of just hanging at home, but the wide openness of it right now is a little daunting.  Like I need to think of ways to fill it and it's stressing me out.  How stupid is that?!  Like I said, my brain is just not in the right place yet.  But it's only the first day so I'm sure I'll get it figured out soon enough.  I just need to get in the groove of summer.  And that's a great problem to have...I am not complaining!  Okay, back to this week's photos.  My kids brought home ridiculous amounts of papers this week and I go through most of them right away and 99% of them go straight in the trash.  This one caught my attention though.  I just had to take a picture of it to save.  My daughter did a unit on poetry and she wrote lots of flowery nice poems, but this one just cracks me up!

"I'm already edgicaded."  Best line of poetry ever...  Reminds me of when I was in like 3rd grade and I thought it was totally logical that I could stop school right then and teach 2nd grade when I grew up...after all, a 3rd grader already knows everything that they teach in 2nd grade, right?!

And just another note on the poem...I hope she writes something much different at the end of next year since I'm going to be her teacher!  Yes, we are enrolling our kids in the Ohio Virtual Academy and we feel awesome about our decision.  I am excited to see what the next school year will hold.  This summer I have lots to do to get our school room (currently our dining room) ready and for us to get in the right moods to learn at home, but I think it's going to be fun to get the kids involved in the whole process.

On a totally different note, I do have a couple more photos to share, but I didn't take them this week.  I'm a total cheater...bad teacher.  I took these last week but completely forgot to post them.  They are of these awesome flowers in our neighbor's backyard.  I don't remember seeing them last year, and they completely have me intrigued.  They look just like candy corn!  And they are changing every day.  They sort of open at the bottom and then shrivel as they bloom upwards.  Very strange...not at all like your traditional flower.  I tried to google and see what they are called, but all I could find were a couple other photos of them also being called "candy corn flowers".  And there are lots of other flowers that look like candy corn too.  Who knew?

If you happen to know the real name of these flowers, please leave a comment and let me know!

Have a great weekend!!
