Mountain Kids ~ A Photo Shoot ~

I was going to try to post something witty and super interesting for you guys to read, but I just have to share some photos first.  After all, I love photography and I love sharing photos.  And I happen to love the subjects of these photos more than just about anything, so you'll have to forgive me for the massive amount of photos today.  I was wondering if my readers would like me to post photography tips when I post pics from photo shoots.  Anyone?  I totally can, but if no one cares, then I will just post the normal "I love her face in this pic" type of stuff.  I don't want to bore you with stuff like posing and lighting and all that if it's not what you are into.  But if you are sitting around wondering why don't I share my secrets, then all you have to do is ask!  I'm totally not one of those photographers who guards my secret locations or anything like that.  I'm pretty much an open book, so it you have a question, feel free to post it in the comments or shoot me an email!  Now...on to the pics.  I'm pretty proud of these.  I love them.  I love the warmth, the outfits, the location, the kids :), pretty much everything.  You just might see some of them on our Christmas card this year.  I still haven't decided.  This photo shoot was done while we were on our super short fall getaway a few weeks ago.  I love the downtown of the town we go to and have always said every year when we go to the little shops how much I'd love to do a photo shoot there and how perfect certain spots would be.  This year I actually planned ahead and packed some photo shoot worthy outfits that coordinated for my kids just in case we had time to squeeze it in.  I'd like to thank my mom for encouraging me to do some things on this trip that would make me happy and not just make the kids happy.  I didn't want to hear them whining that they were bored and so I was just giving in and only doing things that they wanted to do.  But my mom pointed out (I guess mom's do have some good wisdom sometimes!) that it was just as much my vacation as it was theirs' so I should do things I want to do too.  After her pep talk we ended up taking a drive to another small town to go to a shop I love and the kids actually really liked it.  Feeling empowered after that I insisted that they let me do this photo shoot because after all, we did tons of things they wanted to do and this is what I wanted to do.  The kids were very cooperative and I promised I'd only go to two spots I had in mind and I would keep it quick if they promised not to whine and make tons of silly faces.  It worked and I got some of my favorite photos of them in the 30 minutes or so we took out of our day to make this happen.  Moral of the story...listen to your mom. :)

My cuties.  Oh, and I am fully aware that these photos are on my header right now.  But when I change my header for next month they will be gone and I wanted to put them in an actual blog post so if I ever want to look back and see what I wrote it would be here.

This is totally my favorite.  I love how her pants are forming a heart!

I love this too.  I like how he's almost winking at me.  And I like the sliver of light from under the fire escape.

I posted this on Facebook so you've probably already seen it, but I still love how they coordinate so well.

The many cute faces of my girl.  It makes it really hard to pick favorites!

I like his frowny eyebrows in this one.  And the pose.

Little boys with hands in their pockets is my favorite pose.

Normally I would hate that this is crooked, but how can you not love those smiles!

I know that some people don't like serious poses on little girls, but I love, love, love this!  I love the reflection in the glass, the blur of the brick in the foreground, and her serious face.  It just works.

This kid, on the other hand, really doesn't get how to do a serious face.  I will tell him, just do nothing with your face.  Just don't smile.  And then he'll proceed to make some sort of super ridiculous face and tell me he is doing nothing with his face.  This smile, however, I'll take it!

So technically I counted all the previous spots as 'one location' since they were all within the same city block.  Then we headed out to this bridge over the river because I really wanted some mountains in the background.  I love the one on the bottom left.  It's got a few cars and the street in the background.  I like that it gives some context to the shoot.

The sun had pretty much set at this point and I like how the lights in the background made some pretty bokeh.

Last one.  I love this smile.  And the glimpse of the sun through the tops of the trees.  Perfect.

I hope you enjoyed them!
