Remembering

Memorial Day weekend is a good weekend for me.  It's the anniversary of when my husband and I met.  We met at a street festival here in our city and we go back every year to remember.  This year we also took some time to remember family members as well.  I can remember going to the cemetery as a kid on Memorial Day to take flowers to my Grandpa Eddie who died when I was a baby.  My dad didn't talk about him very much, but that gesture of going there was enough for me to know how much he missed him.  So, I took my kids to the cemetery to take flowers to their Grandpa Dennis and Grandpa Eddie and although we talk about Grandpa Dennis often, it was still nice for them to see that we do this to remember.  I don't think they really 'get' what Memorial Day is all about yet, but someday they will.  This was my kids first time to a cemetery and my daughter wanted to know if Grandpa Dennis' skeleton was in the ground.  She's a thinker, that one.  At least she knows that he's really in heaven waiting for us to join him someday.

This is my son and my nephew putting a flag on Grandpa Eddie's grave.

Carrying the watering can for the flowers.

My daughter found a cool tree so we stopped for some photos.

Love this of my babies.  His face is so typical.

Love, love this one...cutest little face ever.

He found that rock and took a break for about 10 seconds.  I have to be quick with him.

We will never forget.

After we visited the cemetery we popped over to see my Grandma who we haven't seen in a few years.  I am a bad granddaughter.  Here are my kids with her.  My daughter had a great time exploring her cute, tidy house.  And she was shocked at how small her "little grandma" was.  She's even shorter than me and I kept telling her that, but I guess she didn't think that was possible!

Thank you to all the men and women who have gone before us and paid the ultimate sacrifice for this great country of ours.  I have no words to express my gratitude.
